Is Dominant Dominant all of the time??

We have been talking about dominant and recessive genes. The dominant allele is expressed (shows) in the presence of a recessive allele. How can a white FOur-o'clock and a violet Four-o'clock produce a purple Four-o'clock when crossed?

In this case, a heterozygous genotype creates an intermediate phenotype. As Andrew stated, the dominant gene is expressed, but, so is the recessive, creating a blended or combined phenotype. A cross of two intermediate phenotypes can result in the reappearance of either the parent phenotypes or the blended phenotypes. What is this called?
